Stockport Plaza

Last Saturday I attended an Organ coffee morning to raise money and celebrate Stockport Plaza's 80th birthday this week. This amazing cinema and playhouse was built in 1932 and has amazing features of the era. This includes a Compton Organ that rises from the orchestra pit, they showed a silent film on how the organ was made and the variety of sound it can make, very impressively the organist had never seen the film before and was able to play along with it, it's amazing to think that that used to be the normal cinema going experience. There are a lot of different things happening at the Plaza these days including live broadcasts from the National Theatre in London, we went to see "The Curious Incident of the dog in the Night Time" a few weeks ago and it was truly amazing. One of the things they're showing this week is a day of Pathé News reels with 80p admittance fee, I'd love to go but I'll be at work.
